A little bit about the website and a little bit less about me
It all began... when I converted the Westfield Zetec from carbs to throttle bodies using motorbike parts and an American ECU kit. I posted on the Westfield Sports Car Club forum that I had the engine running and to my complete surprise I was inundated with emails from a whole host of different countries requesting further details. For a time I was writing the same email 3 or 4 times a week which was rather time consuming. Anyway I'd been thinking about writing a website for a little while, and this was the push I needed. The problem was that I hadn't a clue how to do it!
So I bought a book for Christmas 2008 (from Sitepoint) on how to write your own website. It took absolutely ages researching and experimenting as I wanted to write it from scratch and I had to learn about xhtml, css and javascript code, plus hosting options, W3C standards, browser differences, etc. The end result is what you see. It's written entirely in Notepad in xhtml, formatted with cascading style sheets and with a lttle bit of javascript thrown in. As far as possible I've tried to conform to W3C standards. It's regularly tested on the common browsers, and it should be compatible with web readers for the blind. It's hosted by UK2.
In the beginning... I started at Vauxhall Motors as a student, went to Southampton Uni and then spent 5 very happy years at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire. There followed 7 years in consultancy at Cranfield University and a further 7 years in the aerospace industry near Gloucester during which time I moved from design engineering into production management. A couple of years in the electronics industry followed and in 1997 I moved to the fledgling Stewart GP F1 team. In 1999 we were bought out by Ford and renamed Jaguar Racing. During this time my role evolved into a business software application specialist, having always been interested in this side of manufacturing. Having been through some fairly tough times with Jaguar the business was bought by Red Bull in 2005, since when we have gone from strength to strength, winning our first driver's and constructor's championships in 2010. I've been a Chartered Mechanical Engineer for over 25 years and was recently elected a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
